We found the perfect place to say "good-bye" to the summer: First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach. We didn't have a site-specific reservation, but we were able to get a primo (and shaded) spot just over the dune from the ocean. The park has tons of hiking trails — but we spent our time on the beach or at the park's Discovery Center. And to make things even better, we were joined by Max, Audrey, and Lesley (and their au pair, Martina). A great time was had by all (and we've already reserved our 2020 visit!).
