Shakedown Cruise

Sunday February 20, 2022

Ahhhh.... a relaxing weekened at Cliffs of the Neuse to start our 2022 camping season. The weather was perfect: upper 60°Fs in the day cold enough at night to need a roaring fire and Roxy's heater.

We tried Dutch Oven Potato and Bacon soup for dinner. Unfortunately, someone forgot to bring the charcoal chimney (d'oh!) and we had to finish cooking on the stove. But it was still delicious (and enough left over for the next morning's breakfast).

My happy place.
My happy place.

Not quite right...
Not quite right...
We had a nice hike along the Galax trail and spent the rest of the afternoon lounging in the hammocks. The less-than-perfect parking job on the levelers made Rick nervous all weekend, but as Molly predicted: nothing happened. :-)

We packed up and left on Monday morning just as the Rangers were beginning a prescribed burn in the area.

Note for next time: Avoid spot #1, as the sewer connection is almost 9" above ground, making dumping impossible. Good thing there's a dump station on site!
