Hagan-Stone Park

Saturday September 23, 2017

I'm sitting by the fire, listening to the crickets at Hagan-Stone Park. Molly and April are inside, snoozing. It has been a loooooong day.

In our quest for once-a-month (at least) camping trips, we selected Hagan-Stone. It is a county park in Pleasant Grove, just outside of Greensboro.

Molly took Friday off and did the shopping and packing. She drive Rusty & Roxy to Raleigh to pick me up from work (braving the VERY narrow lanes on Falls Of Neuse Road). I don't tell her nearly enough, but I have complete faith in her abilities.

A mere 100 miles later, we arrived. We found out spot, a heavily wooded (but not very level) site in the B loop. Backing in proved a bit challenging… believe it or not, Molly doubts her ability to direct, but after 3 attempts, we got in, leveled, and unhooked.

We walked around the campground and explored the bath houses (old and new, although we couldn't really tell the difference). April, as usual, loved all the new sights, sounds, and smells.

Dinner was a boy scout favorite: beef in armor, cooked in the fire. We spent a few more hours at the fire, drinking adult beverages, and enjoying the evening. It was warm, but not too bad.

Finally it was time for April's “last pee-pee of the evening” and we went inside for the night. Molly made sure Roxy’s AC was running. Although I may have complained about the cold. It was quite nice!

On Saturday morning we woke up and sipped our coffee outside. After the classic Sapir camping breakfast (bag omelettes) we decided to take a hike around the park.

According to the map, one of the trails was marked as “available for bikes.” We brought both bikes (and the chariot) on this trip, just in case, but after 5 minutes of walking on the “bike” trail, Molly said, “No way.” So we kept walking.

It was a LONG hike… about 3.5 miles. Needless to say, when we got back all of us (including April) were tired. We had lunch and just chilled on Roxy for a while

Hammock time.

Dinner was pork chops on the fire (a first for us), baked potatoes and salad. Another perfect meal. We spent the rest of the evening in front of the fire (Molly spent it looking for things to burn!)

Sunday was pack up day. Checkout is 12noon, so we need to get on the road soon. I'm a bit stressed (no surprise), as Rusty is nearly out of gas. I hate navigating gas stations while hooked up. Oh well, if Molly can drive on Falls, I guess I can handle a BP station.
