Heading to Columbia, SC for the World Beer Festival later... I can't sleep. Partially because I'm too stupidly excited to take Roxy out again!
We had her winterized, despite my yearning to move out of the house and into the camper. We also bought a $200 cover for her which we put on upside-down and had to re-do! It was like stretching a circus tent over a building. Twice.
So in the morning, we will de-winterize, even though it's only February. It will be interesting! Our first multi-night trip (3).
Audrey is gone (12/25) and April is staying home this time. We'll be bunking at Sesquicentennial State Park and i managed to score a pull-thru site. No sewer hookup, though, so this will be our first "Dump Station experience."
Menu plan:
- Friday:
Breakfast at home
Lunch on the road
Beef in Armor for dinner - Saturday:
Bag omelettes
Lunch at the show
White chicken chili for dinner - Sunday:
Breakfast burritos
Lunch at the show
Chicken kebabs for dinner - Monday:
Cinnamon buns on a stick for breakfast
Gotta find sticks!
Roxy's almost ready to go, except for the pink anti-freeze stuff in all her water lines. We've got our calendar, and new paper towel holder, and new coat hooks, and new floor mats, and new shower caddy, and coordinated-by-color paper plates and bowls.... not to mention the glow-in-the-dark stars and planets on the ceiling. Hopefully things will work as good as they look. (As well as they look ?!?)
I took Thursday off to get things ready to roll. We're both off today (Friday) and we're hoping to be on the road by lunchtime.
Petsitter is coming to stay with April... but I wish she was coming with us! We just don't know how dog-friendly the Beer Fest will be, so we are taking a "Humans Only" approach.
However... Rick and I are both deadly serious about not letting Roxy sit in the driveway getting dusty. So we've made camping plans for:
- March: Sycamore Lodge
- April: Kerr Lake (VanderSliks)
- May: Jordan Lake (Lisa & Steve)
- June: Falls Lake
And in July, I'm going to try to talk Hubby into a mountain trip, perhaps in Boone or Asheville.
Oh, hey... I forgot to talk about Reflectix:
Yes, I'm serious.
So! We are not willing to freeze any of our body parts off just to be "winter camping." So we got Reflectix and we cut pieces to fit beautifully into the tent bed windows. It's supposed to keep cold and heat out. But cutting the pieces was yet another day-long project, as the rear bed windows are different sizes (why?!??!) and measuring is hard and boring.
But, as usual, we persevered, and we have no intention of being slaves to uncomfortable temperatures.
Question that have arisen:
- Do we need to insulate the 2nd bed with such carefully customized Reflectix if we're not bringing our dog?
- Do we need to bring a cooler at all, considering that we have an actual refrigerator? (But if we don't where will the stickers go?)
It's now 1:17am. This is no way I'm going to get any sleep. (Wait... Fifty Dollars for bubble wrap and tin foil!?!?!?) I am just now realizing that Reflectix is something we should have invented ourselves.)
We also finally measured Roxy's height, as we'd like to get her a carport (or whatever a camper-covering parking space is called) so we don't have to deal with the circus tent again. We got a quote: $3,000. Or maybe $2,500. Either way it is pricey AF. Rick believes we can save and fairly soon make the investment. I would rather just go camping so frequently that we don't need a designated parking spot!
More in the morning...
